Let’s talk about PTSD in the workplace. Who has worked in a toxic work environment? 🙋🏽♀️
If you have a hostile workplace or a colleague whose aggressive, intimidating or toxic, that can trigger prior memories for people who have experienced trauma and yes it can cause “workplace PTSD.” Several causes can be stemmed from racism, bullying, poor work-life boundaries and job insecurity.
Is there any hope?
What I do love about the younger generation is that they are far more vocal about their mental-health struggles and because of this we are finally seeing an increasing number of people that recognize the toxic workplaces and are more comfortable talking about it. It is our hope that workplaces embrace mental-health support for their employees and become more in tune with their workforce.
I will soon tell my story of how trauma in the workplace shaped me into who I have become professionally today. There were many PTSD moments I experienced after walking away and I encourage anyone dealing with any trauma to create better work boundaries and push for culture change both inside and outside of work.
